17 Easy High-Protein Lunch Ideas

Lunch is the meal I’m most likely to phone in. Breakfast I’ve got on lock, dinner I actually plan for, but lunch has a way of sneaking up on me at noon when I’m mid-task and starving.

So over the years, I’ve built up a little arsenal of easy high-protein lunches I can pull together fast. Some are recipes. A lot are barely recipes at all, more like a method for throwing protein, crunch, and something creamy into a container and calling it a meal.

Every idea here has at least 30 grams of protein, give or take what you serve it with, because that’s what actually keeps me full till dinner instead of raiding the snack drawer at 3pm. Some are no-cook. Some take 15 minutes. None of them are complicated.

Here are 17 of my go-tos, grouped so you can jump to whatever you’re in the mood for.

No-Cook Lunch Boxes & Snack Plates

These are the lunches for days when “cooking” is not happening. No stove, no real recipe, just a few good ingredients and a container. If I’m being honest, this is the category I lean on the most.

Healthy high-protein lunch idea with boiled eggs, almonds, cherry tomatoes, and cucumber in a glass meal prep box

Make-Your-Own Protein Box

You know the protein box from Starbucks? The one that’s basically an adult Lunchable for $8? You can build a better one at home in about five minutes for a fraction of the price.

The formula is simple. Pick a protein (hard-boiled eggs, sliced chicken, cheese cubes, a scoop of tuna or chicken salad), add a healthy fat (nuts, nut butter, a dip), and round it out with veggies and fruit. Carrot sticks, cucumber, grapes, a clementine, whatever you’ve got.

That’s it. No recipe, no cooking, and you can make it different every single day.

Smoked salmon high-protein lunch box with rice cakes, radishes, tomatoes, fresh dill, and lemon in a glass container

Smoked Salmon, Crackers & Veggies

This is the one I make when I want lunch to feel a little fancy with minimal effort.

Smoked salmon is a great source of protein and omega-3s, and it pairs with almost anything. I keep it simple with rice cakes, crunchy veggies, a squeeze of lemon, and some fresh dill or chives.

Try hot-smoked salmon if you’ve only ever had the thin cold-smoked kind. It comes in a filet, most grocery stores carry it, and it’s a nice change.

Quick high-protein lunch box with turkey slices, grapes, radishes, bell pepper sticks, and dressing in a divided container

Smoked Chicken & Crudités

Think of this as the protein box’s heartier cousin. Smoked chicken, a pile of crunchy veggies, and a good dip, and you’re done.

Pack 3 to 6 ounces of smoked chicken (or any cooked protein you love), a couple cups of dippable veggies like bell peppers, cucumber, and snap peas, and a little container of sauce. Hummus, honey mustard, or a spicy black bean dip all work.

Bonus: unlike tuna salad, this one won’t announce itself to the entire office.

Easy high-protein lunch box with turkey and cheese lettuce wraps, sliced apple, and walnuts in a glass container

Turkey & Cheese Lettuce Wraps

It doesn’t get much simpler than this. It’s basically a sandwich that swapped the bread for crisp lettuce leaves.

Pile sliced turkey and a couple slices of cheese onto big romaine, butter, or iceberg leaves, then add whatever sandwich toppings you like. Mustard, sliced cucumber, pickled jalapeños, all good.

Assemble when you’re ready to eat so the lettuce stays crunchy. Five minutes, lots of protein, almost no effort.

Chicken, Egg & Tuna Salads

Chicken salad is basically my whole personality at this point. I’ve got soooo many recipes on the site, so narrowing it down was hard. Here are a favorites, plus a tuna and an egg one. They all scoop onto crackers, pile onto toast, or sit in lettuce cups, and they get better after a day in the fridge.

It’s rotisserie chicken, toasted cashews, fresh jalapeño, celery, green onion, and cilantro in a creamy lime greek yogurt dressing. 38 grams of protein, ready in 15 minutes, and I ate it straight out of the container.

Healthy Dill Pickle Tuna Salad

Tuna salad is a classic for a reason, and this lighter dill pickle version is the one I keep coming back to. It swaps most of the mayo for creamy greek yogurt, then adds canned tuna, crunchy veggies, and lots of chopped dill pickle. Scoop it onto crackers, into lettuce cups, or pile it on bread.

High-Protein Avocado Egg Salad
5 from 1 vote
Creamy avocado and eggs is a combo that never gets old, and this one sneaks in cottage cheese and mustard to bump the protein and the texture. It sounds a little weird. Trust me, you won’t taste the cottage cheese, and it makes the whole thing creamier. With bread or crackers it lands right around 30 grams of protein.

We have Violet Witchel to thank for the dense bean salad, and I have to say they make some of the best meal-prep lunches out there. Same goes for a good pasta salad. A little chopping, tons of protein and fiber, and they actually taste better after sitting in the fridge.
