Hey there, gorgeous!
If you’re anything like me, you know that hitting your 30s means it’s time to up your skincare game. So here’s the ultimate Morning skincare routine for 30s.
Our skin starts to experience some changes, and we need to adjust our routine to keep it looking fabulous. So, let me spill the tea on the perfect morning and evening skincare routine for women in their 30s, complete with my best product recommendations and expert tips.
About ten years ago, I became obsessed with cosmetic science and read every study, blog, and book I could get my hands on. Since then, I’ve been testing out products to see what I like and what really works. You’ll see a couple of “Fact check!” call outs below that send you to the scientific research if you’re interested.
Before we start, here’s my short list of criteria that I look for in skincare products:
- Gentle and/or fragrance-free formulations
- Science-backed ingredients (I want to put my hard-earned money to work!)
- Affordable price point with the occasional splurge if it’s really worth it (worth it for me, means super effective)
- I like it, enjoy using it and find myself repurchasing it
Let’s dive in!
Morning Routine
Step 1: Cleanser
The first step in any skincare routine is cleansing. Choose a gentle, hydrating cleanser that removes dirt, oil, and makeup without stripping your skin of its natural moisture. Look for cleansers with ingredients like hyaluronic acid or glycerin, which help retain hydration.
Pro tip: Cleanser only stays on your face for a couple of seconds so any active ingredients won’t have time to work. Keep it simple and budget friendly.

Step 2: Serum
Serums are concentrated formulas that target specific skin concerns, like fine lines, dark spots, or dullness. In your 30s, it’s essential to include a vitamin C serum in your routine. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals, boosts collagen production, and brightens the skin. If used consistently, you’ll see a difference within 2-3 weeks.
Warning: Vitamin C is very unstable so look for a high-quality product in dark or opaque glass. If your serum starts to darken in color, it has probably oxidized and it’s time to replace it.

Step 3: Moisturizer
Hydration is key to maintaining a youthful complexion. Choose a moisturizer tailored to your skin type (dry, oily, or combination) and formulated with ingredients that lock in moisture, like hyaluronic acid or ceramides. I also like to layer a light moisturizer or gel with a heavier one on top.

Step 4: Sunscreen
We can’t forget about sun protection! It’s absolutely crucial in preventing premature aging and skin damage. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every day, even on cloudy days, preferably every two hours. Look for sunscreens with a lightweight, non-greasy formula that won’t clog your pores.

BONUS: Night Routine
I couldn’t leave you just with a morning routine. Check out my full recommendations for your complimentary nighttime routine as well.
Step 1: Double Cleanse
Just like in the morning, start your night routine with a gentle cleanser that removes makeup, dirt, and oil from your skin without stripping it of its natural moisture. You can use the same cleanser you used in the morning or add in an oil-based cleanser for extra hydration.
I like to start with an oil cleanser, using a silicon brush. I find this really helps to keep my skin smooth and reduces small bumps and other texture spots like the small bumps I get on my forehead.

Step 2: Retinol
Three to five days a week:
Retinol is the holy grail of anti-aging ingredients, helping to stimulate collagen production, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and even out skin tone. Introduce a retinol serum or cream to your nighttime routine gradually, starting with 1-2 times a week and increasing frequency as your skin adjusts.
My favorites:
- Dermatologist prescribed Tretinoine (prescription required)
- Curology
- Paula’s Choice Clinical 0.3% Retinol + 2% Bakuchoil Treatment

One to two days a week:
Next, introduce an AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) exfoliant to your routine. AHA exfoliants, like glycolic or lactic acid, help slough off dead skin cells, revealing brighter, smoother skin. They also improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Use an AHA exfoliant 2-3 times a week to avoid over-exfoliating your skin.

Step 3: Moisturizer
Finally, lock in all the goodness with a nourishing nighttime moisturizer. Look for a rich, hydrating formula that contains ingredients like ceramides, hyaluronic acid, or peptides to support your skin’s natural barrier and repair process.
You can also test out an additional layer of Vaseline or Aquaphor over the top to lock it all in.

And there you have it – the perfect morning and night skincare routine for women in their 30s! With these steps and product recommendations, you’ll be well on your way to achieving and maintaining that youthful, glowing skin. Sweet dreams and happy pampering!
